Long Beach City College, one of two colleges nationwide funding and mentoring high-growth startup companies, granted $150,000 in seed money to help three businesses grow their businesses in the Los Angeles area, the college announced Tuesday.
The companies were given awards of $25,000 to $100,000 to pursue their business goals in the areas of clean and advanced energy technologies, and advanced manufacturing. The third category, biomedical devices, did not receive recognition.
The companies to receive the awards include Revoterial, which is exploring a material to manufacture shoes with a single substance; West Hollywood-based Engine Fitness, which is designing and creating fitness equipment; and PickMySolar, an online marketplace to help consumers find solar system installers.
